This will be our third summer participating in this amazing camp and, as I’ve written before, it’s the only camp I’m willing to commit to driving over an hour a day for my kids to attend.
There are A LOT of things that we love about Camp Invention, one of the biggest being their commitment to closing the gender gap in innovation. That’s such an important message for both my daughter and my sons to see playing out in real life!
Diverse perspectives are needed to solve the world’s biggest challenges, but currently, women and girls are underrepresented in STEM fields. Though girls and boys show similar interest in these subjects during elementary school, a UNESCO study found only 30% of female students worldwide select STEM-related fields in higher education, and a 2017 study found that by age 15, just 42% of the girls surveyed said they would consider a career in STEM.

I have been blown away over the last two summers by how appealing this camp has proven to be for my kids.
My daughter is traditional more of an art-lover but she was ecstatic when she heard she’s going again. I was also worried that last year would be too early to start with my son, who was only 5. But he also loved it and couldn’t wait to go back each morning.
I think their secret sauce is really knowing how to engage and connect with kids of all ages, genders, and interests. My daughter might not be particularly into robotics but she loves caring for animals so the build-your-own-robot-pet module was right up her ally.
